Why do our historical GDP and employment estimates change?

Each year on 31 January we publish an extra year’s data in our Regional Economic Profiles. As well as adding the extra data we revise the historical data. Sometimes these revisions are quite substantial. In this article I explain why there are changes to the historical numbers.
