A Key moment ahead of the 2017 election
John Key’s resignation as Prime Minister has dominated the headlines this week. Financial markets’ immediate response was to drive the New Zealand dollar down by more than half a cent against the greenback. That reaction wasn’t a reflection on inferior economic or policy outcomes over the next year, but instead indicated the increased likelihood that the change of leader means that National will not be in as strong a governing position following next year’s election.
