Estimating the cost of the regional fuel tax

It’s just under a month since the regional fuel tax was introduced in Auckland, and we’re still trying to count the potential cost of the tax and figure out who pays what. Late last week I provided some figures to Fairfax about the increased cost the tax would place on people driving to and from work. What the numbers showed was the regional fuel tax would hit workers in the wallet, with some households having to fork out around $100pa just to get to and from work. This article looks at the cost of the regional fuel tax on households living in different areas within Auckland.
