New attached dwellings more popular than ever

Between 1996 and 2009, standalone houses consistently made up between 70% and 80% of new dwelling consents issued. But since the start of 2017, that proportion has dropped from above 70% to 64%. Does this decline in the share of standalone houses reflect a temporary surge in attached dwelling numbers, or are we shifting to a new “normal” for attached dwellings?
