Intensification’s effect on the footprint of residential construction

As the population grows, there’s a belief that houses are getting closer together as denser housing options become more common. That trend would imply less room to build out and possibly more need to build up. In other words, shrinking section sizes could mean that the average footprint of new houses is decreasing even faster than the decline in the average floor area over recent years. For some building materials, such as concrete in foundations, roofing, or guttering and downpipes, any divergence could have an important effect on sales volumes.
