The government’s spending on infrastructure has attracted an increasing amount of attention over the last couple of years as congestion in the main centres has worsened, the Labour government has changed its capital expenditure priorities, and domestic economic growth has slowed. This article examines how big our civil infrastructure underspend has been in recent years, and it also explores the likelihood that the government’s actions will have a meaningful effect in resolving these issues or stimulating economic activity.
