Will supply issues impact the New Zealand transport sector?

COVID-19 has been tough for the transport sector. Lockdown restrictions meant most people and businesses could not buy a car during April, closed borders are reducing demand as fewer migrants and tourists require transport, and with job losses beginning to pile up, economic uncertainty undermining consumers’ willingness to spend on big ticket items. In the three months to May 2020 all new vehicle sales fell 51%pa. Used vehicle sales have also fared badly dropping 46%pa over the same three months. Meanwhile, over the same period new vehicle imports only dropped 38%pa and used vehicle imports have dropped 43%pa. Will COVID-19 effect vehicle supply chains into New Zealand? And what might dealers and buyers be affected if supply is disrupted?
